Tyne Tees Tigers (99) defeated Sheffield Thunder (90)
Well the boys made the trip down to Manchester for the second week in a row to tackle the Sheffield Thunder in the all important Plate Final of 2016!!
With a few injuries and availability issues within the team we also had a few very handy inclusions!!
So the stage was set for an epic battle between two teams that had fought out some tight contests during the home and away season.
The coaches knew that if we played with, aggression, commitment, passion and with pride in our gurneys then things should fall our way!!
There could be no passengers!.
It was time to make some Tiger history and bring some silverware back to the North East for the first time!
The first quarter was tight and although down by 8 points at quarter time the signs were there that we could kick on with just our final finishing letting us down!!
Roy was providing great run around the ground with Liam grabbing the leather with ease seeing it like a watermelon!!
The second quarter started with a bang with the Tigers hitting the packs hard and showing all that they were not going to lie down.
Brady started to control things from the back with great help from Connor!
The confidence was growing and although the Thunder increased their lead to 15 points at the main break the boys held firm in their beliefs in themselves and their team mates!
They say that the third quarter is were you can win or loose the game! Calling it the premiership quarter!
That wasn't lost on the team who came out and played the best quarter of footy of the season!
Dan was given the task of tagging their play maker which would nullify their forward thrusts.
He wanted a job and he got one....running himself into the ground giving no easy kicks away and in the mean time damaging his ankle!
Chris was doing a great job holding the ball in the forward line! With Sparky giving another option up front!
Col was not only getting his fair share of taps but also chipping in around the ground with valuable possessions.
Meanwhile Nolsey turned back the years....(many, many years) and got a bit of pensioner leather poisoning!
What a quarter of footy!!!
Turning a 15 point deficit into a 17 point advantage at the final turn!
It was in reaching distance!!
With Boxy passing on the messages from the coaches with his NASA build fluro top all was going to task!
With a bench full of confidence and passion we were ready to have one last push!
Sheffield came out well in the last and kicked the first 2 goals which made the coaching staff twitch with nervousness!
But we shouldn't of worried....Mini, Mikey, Bish and Gwyn were dominating and making a nuisance of themselves with The Pres itching to get on the park!
The boys continued to play with pride and worked like Tigers and when the Pres got on the park the boys up the ante to push over the line by 9 points!.
Amazing effort from the backroom staff to all the players!
It was tough, it was aggressive, it was passionate. Incredible what can happen when all pull together and love the Tiger gurnsey and none more so than Roy who got voted BOG!!
The coaching staff could not be more proud of the boys!!
History was made!!
